Writ for half rent for students
A writ
petition has been filed in the High Court seeking directions to halve the fares
of all types of public-private buses, launches and trains for students.
Supreme
Court lawyer Younus Ali Akand filed the writ petition at the concerned branch
of the High Court on Wednesday.
According
to the petition, Article 18 of the constitution guarantees education to the
government. That is why the cost of education should be borne by the
government. But by violating the constitution, the students are bearing other
incidental expenses. Even then, the basic rights of the students are being
violated even after the issue of half rent has been introduced for a long time.
The students are protesting. If that movement spreads all over the country,
anarchy may be created.
The writ
petition seeks an interim order to halve the rent for students. Besides, a
request has been made to issue a rule asking why the government will not be instructed
to take half fare for all types of transport for students.
In the
writ petition, the Home Secretary, Shipping Secretary, Secretary of the Bridges
Department of the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges, Secretary of the
Ministry of Railways and the Chief of Police have been named as defendants.
